Lesson Learned/Best Practice

All projects in Miami-Dade / Broward Counties are required to have the increased impact rating due to the Ultimate Wind speed for these areas in South Florida.  For projects in Miami-Dade / Broward County verify that NOAs provided by the design team meet Risk Category IV / Level E impact rating, for essential facilities, which is 80 fps over the Large Missile Impact rating of 50 fps prior to bidding out project and going to contract.

Suggested Actions for Future Projects

Have design teams update their specifications to clarify that all exterior envelope components below 30ft in elevation are called out to meet the 80 fps impact rating and then all exterior components above 30ft meet Large Missile Impact rating of 50fps.
